Planting a root ball in a pot
Plants in a pot are more likely to take root than bare-root plants because they are taken from the soil in which they are grown, leaving the smaller roots, which perform most of the nutrient absorption function, intact and without the risk of drying out. The plant you receive will come with a colored sheet that wraps the pot and ensures that the plant does not fall out of it, and a biodegradable jute sheet that holds the root ball and envelops the root system. Prepare a hole 40x40 cm wide and 30-40 cm deep. To plant, you must remove the colored sheet so that you can remove the plant from the pot. Then, place the plant in the hole so that the grafting point remains above ground. Only untie the knot holding the jute sheet to the trunk of the plant without removing it, as this would cause the root ball to break. Cover the root ball with soil from the field, perhaps mixing it with an organic fertilizer, so that the graft remains above ground, creating a sort of basin. Wet the basin with about 20 liters of water so that the soil adheres to the root ball without leaving air bubbles.
Planting Seasons
Planting fruit trees is best done in late autumn, that is, in the months of November and December (before the frost), although planting at a later date in midwinter is also possible if the ground is not frozen. Another good time for planting is February-March, or at the latest until mid-April. Only if the plants were previously grown in pots can they be planted in the following months, with due caution and maintaining the root ball intact. Fruit trees grow well in fertile, deep, and permeable soil. If the soil is very clayey and rather compact, it is advisable to ensure deep drainage.
NB : The ripening times of all fruit trees can be early or late, even a week or more, depending on exposure and climate.
