Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’is an elegant ornamental deciduous shrub with red leaves, prized for its vibrant color and great hardiness. Foliage: Small, oval leaves of an intense red-purple color, which become even more vibrant in autumn. The foliage is deciduous and very decorative, contrasting with the green of other plants.
Flowering: in spring (April-May) it produces small, fragrant yellow flowers, followed by glossy red berries, which are ornamental in autumn and much appreciated by birds.
Location: prefers full sun, where the foliage color is more intense; It also tolerates partial shade.
Soil: It grows well in well-drained soil, even poor or calcareous soil; avoid prolonged waterlogging.
Resistance: This very hardy plant tolerates intense cold (up to -20 °C) and summer drought; it adapts easily to different climatic conditions.
