This is a delicious pumpkin variety, also known as "Berrettina." This ancient pumpkin is grown in the regions of Piacenza, Cremona, Pavia, and Parma. Its flat shape and thick, tough skin are smooth or slightly wrinkled, and gray in color. Its average size ranges from 4 to 7 kg.

Its flavor is extraordinary, characterized by firm, dry flesh, sweet and free of stringiness. It is ideal for making tortelli, ravioli, risotto, soups, and gnocchi, but is equally delicious baked. Its sizable seeds are edible and excellent when toasted.

This pumpkin plant is vigorous, ripens late, and produces an average of 3 to 4 fruits. Harvest takes place from August to November, and it has an excellent shelf life.

Sowing: Indoors in February-March, 2-3 seeds per pot for early harvests; outdoors in April-May, plant in the ground, 3-4 seeds per hole.

Transplanting: Outdoors in April-May; leave one plant per hole when the plants have 3-4 leaves.

Spacing: 2 m between rows and 1-1.5 m along the row.

Tips: At the beginning of cultivation, trim the stem above the third leaf and the lateral shoots above the fourth leaf. The pumpkins are harvested with a few centimeters of stem and left to dry in the sun for a few days; they can be stored for several months without deteriorating.

Seeds required: 100 g per 100 m2 of soil.
