The Common myrtle (Myrtus communis) is an evergreen shrub typical of the Mediterranean basin, prized for its aromatic foliage, scented white flowers, and decorative berries. It is ideal for hedges, borders, Mediterranean gardens, and potted cultivation. A hardy and decorative plant, it combines beauty, tradition, and resistance.

It also grows well in the regions of northern Italy.

  • Species: Myrtus communis

  • Leaves: small, opposite, leathery, dark green, very aromatic.

  • Ideal soil: light, well-drained. drained, preferably calcareous.

  • Exposure: full sun or partial shade.

  • Hardy: tolerates drought and windy climates; Resistant to temperatures up to -5°C.

Care and maintenance

  • Watering: Moderate, increase only during very hot periods.

  • Fertilizer: In spring with a balanced shrub fertilizer.

  • Pruning: After flowering to maintain a compact shape. or create regular hedges

  • Cultivation in pots: suitable for large and deep containers, perfect for terraces and balconies
