MANGO (Mangifera indica) - 9FE18-

The mango variety we offer is Keitt, exceptional both for the size of the fruit and for its late ripening period (November-December), which bridges the gap between imported mangoes. The pulp is of excellent quality.
It is self-fertile; fruiting increases with the number of plants present.
There are examples of mangoes grown successfully, at a hobby level, even in Western Liguria, where, however, winter coverings are often used to avoid any possible risks.
Ripening: from October 20th to November 20th
Plant height at delivery: approximately 80-100 cm

Growing a mango plant can be rewarding, but it requires some specific care. Here are some tips to help you successfully grow a mango tree:
Location: Mangoes love full sun. Choose a spot in your garden that receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Protect young trees from strong winds and frost.
Soil: Mangoes prefer well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Make sure the soil is loose and aerated. Avoid clay soils that can retain water.
Watering: During the active growth period, keep the soil evenly moist. Once established, the mango tree is fairly drought-tolerant, but regular watering is essential in the early years.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer formulated for fruit trees three times a year during the growing season. Reduce fertilization in winter when the plant is dormant.
Pruning: Perform formative pruning to promote a solid, open tree structure. Remove dead, damaged, or overlapping branches. Reduce the tree's height, if necessary, to facilitate harvesting.
Fruit Ripening: Mango fruits take time to ripen. The fruit typically ripens 3-6 months after flowering, depending on the variety. Harvest mangoes when the peel is slightly soft and the scent is fragrant.
Winter Protection: In areas with cold winters, cover the tree with non-woven fabric to protect it from frost.
Remember that mangoes can grow large and require space. Be sure to plant them adequately away from other trees and structures. Recommended planting spacing: 3 x 3 meters or 3 x 4 meters.
