Causal insect: Red palm weevil (Rynchophorus ferrugineus)
The larva destroys the vascular system of plants by feeding on the living tissue of the pith. Its attacks are lethal, especially considering that they are not visible until very advanced infestation. This is why early diagnosis is very important. The damage is very serious: oozing of a brownish, viscous liquid, drying of the crown, deterioration (rot) of the trunk. Pheromone treatment is a 100% eco-friendly solution for eliminating this harmful insect. The principle is to mimic the volatile substances emitted by female insects (female pheromone) in order to play a role in recognition and sexual attraction to males. The latter are attracted and allow themselves to be trapped and eliminated. This prevents mating, reproduction, and therefore egg-laying. Pheromones are used with a trap. The package contains 1 capsule packaged in an airtight bag.Pheromone sachets can be stored in the cold (up to 3 years in the refrigerator - up to 5 years in the freezer). Red palm weevil larvae attack palm trees, causing a real disaster. The first visible effects of the infestation are the oozing of a brown, viscous liquid and the drying of the crown, starting with the youngest plants. Unfortunately, however, these effects are only noticeable after the infestation has been in place for some time. The adult insect's flight period is very long, from March to November. The female red palm weevil can lay 100 to 300 eggs. The larvae that hatch complete their entire life cycle inside the palm trees (from 1 to 4 months) before building a "shell" of plant fibers, within which they transform into nymphs.
