Perennial. The petioles are used to make delicious jams. It grows best in deep soil or in mountainous locations.
It is advisable to cut the central stem as soon as the plant attempts to flower.

N.B. During the winter (November-February), this species completely disappears; however, the root system remains vital and will allow the plant to regrow again in spring.
