Evergreen. Beautiful, with long, fragrant blooms, drought-resistant, decorative even when not in bloom, suitable for poor, sandy or stony soils, but also clayey and calcareous, as long as they are well-drained. Indispensable in pots, on sunny and windy balconies and terraces; also essential in open ground in Mediterranean areas, from sea level (Lavandula Stoechas) up to about 800 m above sea level (Lavandula angustifolia and hybrids).
They can be grown alone, in large patches of the same variety, or in different varieties mixed together for color contrasts; They can form beautiful low hedges or accompany other shrubs, highlighting their characteristics, both with their flowering and their silvery foliage.
Growing Notes: Initial planting must ensure excellent drainage. Fertilize sparingly with a slow-release organic fertilizer. To keep them compact and prevent the formation of unsightly, bare, woody trunks, they are pruned in September or at the end of winter, retaining only 2-3 cm of the annual shoot.
For fragrant, long-lasting dried flower arrangements, the stems should be harvested as soon as the buds begin to open and placed to dry in a ventilated, shady place.
