available icon In stock

The Sweet Kabu is a newly developed Japanese white turnip, highly recommended for eating raw. It's sweet and crunchy, ideal for salads and pickles, rich in flavor and low in calories. "Sweet" was added to the name kabu (turnip) to denote this particular type of sweet turnip.

This turnip can be easily cut into any shape or grated, and you can season it simply with oil, lemon, salt, and pepper, or pair it with fruits like apples, pears, and citrus fruits. You'll discover a pleasantly unexpected flavor. Once grilled, before the surface becomes brown and crispy, its texture is juicy and creamy.

Stew or soup are excellent options for enhancing the natural sweetness of Sweet Kabu, which is often used in Miso Soup and Tsukemono (pickled vegetables) in traditional Japanese cuisine.

Interesting fact: the leaves, once washed, cleaned, and chopped, can be used in place of parsley to season salads or cold dishes.

SOWING/TRANSPLANTATION

Direct sowing is best for this product; the seed should be planted a few centimeters deep and spaced closely together in the row (20-25 cm). It's important not to overwater after sowing, but it's crucial to avoid creating a crust on the surface of the soil.

GROWING SECRETS

  • After germination, begin a consistent watering program, two or three times a week, to stimulate taproot growth and promote leaf development.
  • To keep the above-ground part healthy, it may be helpful to cover the plants with a white sheet to prevent possible pest attacks.
  • Avoid heavy watering and fertilizing in the weeks preceding harvest.

HARVEST

  • The turnips will be ready to harvest when they reach about 5-7 cm in diameter.
  • Uproot the plant from the ground, taking care not to damage the leaves. Remove all the soil, then wash... after removing the peel, it will be ready to be enjoyed and nibbled as you prefer.
