It is a semi-evergreen, hardy, cold-resistant climbing shrub with green leaves composed of five leaflets. It grows to a height of 5-10 m. It produces both female (scented) and male flowers on the same plant between April and May. The fruit pulp is sweet, with a light melon aftertaste. Ripens in late September.
