The genus Allium belongs to the family Amaryllidaceae (formerly Liliaceae) and includes over 900 species, including ornamental and edible varieties (such as garlic, onion, shallot). Flowering varieties are distinguished by their globular inflorescences composed of dozens or hundreds of small star-shaped flowers, often purple, white, pink, or blue.

Allium bulbs are hardy, rustic, and also very popular for use in floral design thanks to their geometric structure.

Growing Allium Bulbs

  • Planting season: from September to December.
  • Flowering: May to July, depending on the variety.
  • Exposure: Full sun or light partial shade.
  • Ideal soil: Well-drained, preferably sandy or slightly calcareous.
  • Planting depth: 2-3 times the height of the bulb (8-10 cm).
