Botanical description

Callicarpa dichotoma ‘Issai’ is an ornamental deciduous shrub known for its abundant autumn fruiting: small, spherical berries of an intense metallic purple color that persist long after the leaves have fallen. The 'Issai' cultivar is particularly appreciated for its high fruit production even at a young age and for its compact growth habit.

It has opposite, lanceolate leaves, light green in color that turn golden yellow in autumn, creating a striking contrast with the decorative fruits. It reaches an average height of 1.5–2 meters, with a rounded, elegant growth habit.

Cultivation and care

• Location: It prefers sunny or partially shaded locations; Direct sun exposure favors better berry color.
• Soil: It adapts to various soil types, but grows best in well-drained, cool, and slightly acidic soils.
