TIPS FOR PREPARING AND MAINTAINING GARDEN AND SPORTS GRASS MATTS After a thorough digging, follow with harrowing or hoeing to break up the clods, level, and incorporate the well-rotted manure into the soil. The manure should have been spread prior to these operations at a rate of approximately 30 quintals per 1,000 square meters. Then, sow the seeds by shooting them in both directions, from top to bottom and from left to right, on a windless day to ensure more even seed distribution. Then, lightly rake the soil to cover the seed, tamping it down with a roller, shovel, or wooden boards tied to the soil's feet. A final, extremely important step is abundant watering, which should be repeated whenever the soil begins to dry out. After winter, especially in cool, compact soil, you'll need to harrow to remove moss and allow air, heat, and water to penetrate the soil and activate nitrification. Seeding the mixtures is best done in spring or fall, but if you have access to watering, you can achieve the same results during the summer. Fall sowing will produce more vigorous plants the following year, allowing you to gain another year. Lawns or green lawns last for many years, and to achieve this, you must: 1) Manually remove weeds as they appear so they don't take over. 2) In very humid and shady areas, if moss is affecting the turf, it's best to remove the infested area in fall and partially reseed it again, or treat the surface with anti-moss products. 3) Mow frequently, so as to never allow the grass to grow more than 10 cm. 15-20 cm, thus encouraging tillering and rooting of individual seedlings. 4) Water frequently during strong heat. 5) In autumn, every other year, spread well-rotted manure or compost at a rate of 30 quintals per 1000 m2. 6) In spring, it's a good idea to compact the green cover with a roller and spread appropriate time-release and/or slow-release fertilizers.
