This species prefers full sun and particularly fertile, loose soil mixed with peat that retains as much moisture as possible. The rhizomes should be planted about 40 cm apart. It tolerates frost. Flowering in gardens lasts from early summer until the first cold spells of winter. Early flowering can be achieved indoors by planting the rhizomes in pots.
